Characters: Gary is a very nice man, but he can he can be stupid, brave, and foolish at the same time because he has yelled a a hungry pack of wolves to stop killing a deer, but he can also get sad because he loves his dogs and a terrible thing happens to one.

Storm was a very protective dog, and acted like a brother to gary.

Setting: He is in Alaska, in the forest and within the forest is a log cabin that he lives in, but towards the end he is in a race that takes place in alaska.

Plot: The crisis of the book was when storm died which impacted garys life because storm was garys best dog. This is very harmful to garys feelings, because storm was his best friend and acted like a brother and he died not to long ago from when Gary got Storm. Also when they finished the race he know there will be another race and he might have to go through the samething but with his life next time.

Point of View: The point of view is first person ex: For a part of a second I thought she was fighting for the cookie.

Theme: The theme of the book is to never give up and keep trying until you succed.  For example it says that "he fell off his sled because he kept knocking into boulders. He couldn't get up so his body kept getting hit by rocks and boulders. A quote in the book said "tattered , bleeding, ragged, and stunned I come out the end of the gorge to crash in the next checkpoint and spend the day recovered, it is the end of day 4".
